Positive likelihood ratio

The positive likelihood ratio gives how much a positive test result raises the odds of having the condition. It is calculated as sensitivity divided by the false positive rate, one minus specificity, and is used to judge how useful a diagnostic test is.

LR+ = \frac{\mathrm{sensitivity}}{1 - \mathrm{specificity}}

What the symbols mean

positive likelihood ratio, a unitless ratio
proportion of people with the condition who test positive, true positive rate
proportion of people without the condition who test negative, true negative rate
