Simple linear regression equation
Predicts the expected value of a response variable from one predictor using a straight line whose intercept and slope are estimated by least squares. It is used to summarise and forecast the linear relationship between two quantitative variables.
\hat{y}=\hat{\beta}_0+\hat{\beta}_1 xWhat the symbols mean
| predicted (fitted) value of the response variable | |
| value of the predictor variable | |
| estimated intercept, the predicted y when x is zero | |
| estimated slope, the change in predicted y per unit increase in x |
