Binomial theorem
Expands a power of a sum of two terms into a sum of terms whose coefficients are binomial coefficients. It is used for algebraic expansion, probability, and approximating powers of binomials.
(x+y)^n = \sum_{k=0}^{n} \binom{n}{k} x^{n-k} y^{k}What the symbols mean
| first term of the binomial | |
| second term of the binomial | |
| non-negative integer exponent | |
| summation index running from 0 to n | |
| binomial coefficient, the number of ways to choose k items from n |
