Force on a charge in an electric field
Gives the electrostatic force on a point charge placed in an electric field. The force has the same direction as E for a positive charge and the opposite direction for a negative charge.
\vec{F} = q\vec{E}What the symbols mean
| electric force vector (newtons, N) | |
| electric charge (coulombs, C) | |
| electric field vector (newtons per coulomb, N/C, or volts per metre, V/m) |
