Lorentz force law
Gives the total electromagnetic force on a point charge moving with velocity v in electric field E and magnetic flux density B. It is the basic link between electromagnetic fields and the motion of charged particles.
\boldsymbol{F} = q (\boldsymbol{E} + \boldsymbol{v} \times \boldsymbol{B})What the symbols mean
| force on the charge (N) | |
| electric charge (C) | |
| electric field strength (V/m) | |
| velocity of the charge (m/s) | |
| magnetic flux density (T) |
