Shannon–Hartley theorem
Gives the maximum error-free data rate that a communication channel with a given bandwidth and signal-to-noise ratio can carry in the presence of white Gaussian noise. It is used to estimate the theoretical capacity limit of communication links.
C = B \log_2 \left( 1+\frac{S}{N} \right)What the symbols mean
| channel capacity, the maximum data rate in bits per second | |
| bandwidth of the channel in hertz | |
| average signal power | |
| average noise power |
