Constitutive relation for permittivity

Relates the electric displacement field to the electric field through the permittivity of the material. It is used for linear, isotropic dielectric media, where the permittivity sets how strongly the material polarises under an applied field.

\boldsymbol{D} = \varepsilon \boldsymbol{E}

What the symbols mean

electric flux density (electric displacement field), in coulombs per square metre
permittivity of the medium, in farads per metre
electric field strength, in volts per metre
