Darcy's law
Gives the volumetric flow rate of a viscous fluid through a porous medium as proportional to the pressure drop across a sample and inversely proportional to its length and the fluid viscosity. It is used in hydrogeology, petroleum engineering and soil mechanics.
Q=\frac{-\kappa A (p_b - p_a)}{\mu L}What the symbols mean
| volumetric flow rate of the fluid (\mathrm{m^3/s}) | |
| permeability of the porous medium (\mathrm{m^2}) | |
| cross-sectional area of the sample perpendicular to flow (\mathrm{m^2}) | |
| pressure at the outlet end (\mathrm{Pa}) | |
| pressure at the inlet end (\mathrm{Pa}) | |
| dynamic viscosity of the fluid (\mathrm{Pa\cdot s}) | |
| length of the sample in the flow direction (\mathrm{m}) |
