Hubble–Lemaître law
States that galaxies recede from us at a speed proportional to their proper distance, with the Hubble constant as the proportionality factor. It is used in cosmology to estimate distances from redshifts and to describe the expansion of the universe.
v=H_0DWhat the symbols mean
| recessional velocity of a galaxy (km/s) | |
| Hubble constant, the present-day expansion rate (km/s/Mpc) | |
| proper distance to the galaxy (Mpc) |
