Degree of a polynomial
For a univariate polynomial f(x) = Σ f_n x^n, the degree is the largest exponent n whose coefficient f_n is nonzero. It is used to classify polynomials and to predict how many roots they can have.
\deg f=\max\{n\colon f_n\ne0\}What the symbols mean
| degree of the polynomial f | |
| the polynomial | |
| exponent of a power of the variable | |
| coefficient of the term with exponent n |
