Dot product
The dot product of two equal-length vectors is the sum of the products of their corresponding components, giving a single number. It is used to compute projections, lengths, and angles between vectors, and equals the product of their magnitudes times the cosine of the angle between them.
\mathbf{a}\cdot\mathbf{b}=\sum_{i} a_i b_iWhat the symbols mean
| first vector | |
| second vector | |
| i-th Cartesian component of \mathbf{a} | |
| i-th Cartesian component of \mathbf{b} | |
| index running over the components of the vectors |
