Eigenvalue equation
A nonzero vector v is an eigenvector of the linear map or matrix A when applying A only stretches it by a scalar factor lambda, which is the corresponding eigenvalue. It is used to find invariant directions in linear algebra, differential equations, and quantum mechanics.
A\boldsymbol{v} = \lambda \boldsymbol{v}What the symbols mean
| square matrix or linear map acting on a vector space | |
| nonzero eigenvector | |
