Glomerular filtration rate
Estimates the rate at which the kidneys filter plasma by dividing the urine concentration of a marker substance times the urine flow rate by its plasma concentration. It is used to assess kidney function.
\mathrm{GFR} = \frac{\mathrm{U}_{x} \times \dot{V}}{\mathrm{P}_{x}}What the symbols mean
| glomerular filtration rate, the volume of plasma cleared per unit time (mL/min) | |
| urine concentration of the marker substance x (mg/mL or mmol/L) | |
| urine flow rate, the volume of urine produced per unit time (mL/min) | |
| plasma concentration of the marker substance x (mg/mL or mmol/L) |
