Michaelis–Menten equation
Gives the initial rate of an enzyme-catalysed reaction as a function of substrate concentration, showing saturation at high substrate. It is the standard model for enzyme kinetics and is linearised by the Lineweaver–Burk plot.
V = \frac{V_{\max} [S]}{K_m + [S]}What the symbols mean
| initial reaction rate (velocity) | |
| maximum reaction rate at saturating substrate concentration | |
| substrate concentration | |
| Michaelis constant, the substrate concentration at which the rate is half of V_{\max} |
