magnetic force on a moving charge
Gives the magnetic part of the force on a point charge moving with velocity v through a magnetic field B. The force is perpendicular to both the velocity and the field, so it changes the direction of motion but not the speed.
\boldsymbol{F} = q \, \boldsymbol{v} \times \boldsymbol{B}What the symbols mean
| magnetic force on the charge (N) | |
| electric charge (C) | |
| velocity of the charge (m\,s^{-1}) | |
| magnetic flux density (T) |
