Magnitude of a complex number
Gives the distance of a complex number from the origin in the complex plane, computed from its real and imaginary parts. It is used whenever the size of a complex number is needed, such as in polar form or when dividing complex numbers.
|z| = \sqrt{\operatorname{Re}(z)^2 + \operatorname{Im}(z)^2}What the symbols mean
| complex number | |
| real part of z | |
| imaginary part of z | |
| magnitude (modulus) of z, a non-negative real number |
