Ohm's law in microscopic form
This gives the current density in a material as the electrical conductivity times the local electric field. It is used to describe how current flows through a conducting medium at each point, rather than through a whole circuit element.
\mathbf{J} = \sigma \mathbf{E}What the symbols mean
| electric current density (amperes per square metre) | |
| electrical conductivity (siemens per metre) | |
| electric field strength (volts per metre) |
