Boltzmann entropy formula
Gives the entropy of a system as the Boltzmann constant times the natural logarithm of the number of microscopic configurations (microstates) compatible with its macroscopic state. It is used in statistical mechanics to connect microscopic counting with thermodynamic entropy.
S = k_B \ln WWhat the symbols mean
| entropy of the system (\mathrm{J/K}) | |
| Boltzmann constant (\mathrm{J/K}) | |
| number of microstates compatible with the macrostate (dimensionless) |
