Electrical power
Gives the rate at which electrical energy is transferred or dissipated in a circuit element, as the product of voltage across it and current through it. It applies to DC circuits, and to AC circuits only when V and I are RMS values and the power factor is 1 (otherwise average AC power is VI cos φ).
P = VIWhat the symbols mean
| electrical power in watts (\mathrm{W}) | |
| voltage across the element in volts (\mathrm{V}) | |
| current through the element in amperes (\mathrm{A}) |
