Energy-momentum relation
Gives the total energy of a particle in terms of its momentum and rest mass in special relativity. It reduces to the rest energy mc^2 when the momentum is zero and is used for particles moving at any speed.
E^2 = p^2 c^2 + m^2 c^4What the symbols mean
| total energy of the particle (J) | |
| momentum of the particle (kg\,m/s) | |
| rest (invariant) mass of the particle (kg) | |
| speed of light in vacuum (m/s) |
