Time-independent Schrödinger equation
This eigenvalue equation states that applying the Hamiltonian operator to a quantum state gives the state multiplied by its energy. It is used to find the stationary states and allowed energy levels of a quantum system whose potential does not depend on time.
\hat{H} | \psi \rangle = E | \psi \rangleWhat the symbols mean
| Hamiltonian operator of the system (total energy operator) | |
| quantum state (eigenstate) of the system | |
| energy eigenvalue associated with the state, in joules |
