Work done by a constant force
Gives the work done on an object by a constant force acting over a straight displacement, counting only the component of the force along the motion. Used in introductory mechanics and energy calculations.
W = \vec{F}\cdot\vec{d} = Fd\cos\thetaWhat the symbols mean
| work done (joules, J) | |
| constant force vector (newtons, N) | |
| displacement vector (metres, m) | |
| magnitude of the force (N) | |
| magnitude of the displacement (m) | |
| angle between the force and the displacement |
