Born rule
In quantum mechanics, it gives the probability of measuring an eigenvalue as the squared modulus of the inner product between the system's state vector and the corresponding eigenstate. It is used to predict measurement outcomes for a quantum system.
P(\lambda_i)=\left|\langle\lambda_i|\psi\rangle\right|^2What the symbols mean
| probability of observing the eigenvalue \lambda_i | |
| eigenvalue of the measured observable | |
| quantum state vector of the system | |
| eigenstate corresponding to the eigenvalue \lambda_i | |
| inner product (probability amplitude) between the eigenstate and the state |
