Boyle's law
For a fixed amount of gas at constant temperature, pressure and volume are inversely proportional, so the product PV stays the same. The equation compares an initial state with a final state.
P_1 V_1 = P_2 V_2What the symbols mean
| initial pressure of the gas (e.g. in Pa or atm) | |
| initial volume of the gas (e.g. in m^3 or L) | |
| final pressure of the gas, in the same unit as P_1 | |
| final volume of the gas, in the same unit as V_1 |
