Elastic potential energy
Gives the energy stored in an elastic object, such as a spring, when it is stretched or compressed by a displacement from its equilibrium length. It follows from Hooke's law and is used in mechanics and energy problems.
U = \frac{1}{2} k \Delta x^2What the symbols mean
| elastic potential energy (J) | |
| spring constant or stiffness (N/m) | |
| displacement from the equilibrium position (m) |
