Fourier's law of heat conduction
Gives the heat flux density in a material as proportional to the negative temperature gradient, with thermal conductivity as the constant of proportionality. It is used to calculate how heat flows by conduction through solids and fluids.
\boldsymbol{q} = -\lambda \nabla TWhat the symbols mean
| heat flux density vector (W/m^2) | |
| thermal conductivity of the material (W/(m·K)) | |
| gradient of temperature (K/m) |
