Henderson–Hasselbalch equation
Estimates the pH of a buffer or weak acid solution from the acid dissociation constant and the ratio of conjugate base to acid concentrations. It is widely used for preparing buffers and for reasoning about acid-base equilibria in biological and chemical systems.
\mathrm{pH} = \mathrm{p}K_\mathrm{a} + \log\frac{[\mathrm{A}^-]}{[\mathrm{HA}]}What the symbols mean
| negative decimal logarithm of the hydrogen ion activity of the solution | |
| negative decimal logarithm of the acid dissociation constant K_a of the weak acid | |
| molar concentration of the conjugate base | |
| molar concentration of the weak acid |
