Moment of inertia of discrete masses
Gives the rotational inertia of a system of point masses about an axis as the sum of each mass multiplied by the square of its perpendicular distance from that axis. It is used to describe how hard a set of particles is to spin about a fixed axis.
I = \sum_{i=1}^{n} m_i r_i^2What the symbols mean
| moment of inertia about the axis (kg·m²) | |
| mass of the i-th particle (kg) | |
| perpendicular distance of the i-th particle from the axis of rotation (m) | |
| number of particles |
