Resultant force
The resultant force is the vector sum of all individual forces acting on a body, and it determines the body's translational acceleration by Newton's second law. It is used to replace a system of forces with a single equivalent force in statics and dynamics.
\mathbf{F} = \sum_{i=1}^{n} \mathbf{F}_iWhat the symbols mean
| resultant force vector (N) | |
| the i-th individual force vector acting on the body (N) | |
| number of forces acting on the body | |
| index labelling each force, from 1 to n |
