Thermal efficiency
Thermal efficiency gives the fraction of thermal energy supplied to a device that is converted into useful work. It is used to compare heat engines and other devices that convert heat into work.
\eta = \frac{W}{Q}What the symbols mean
| thermal efficiency (dimensionless, often expressed as a percentage) | |
| useful work done by the device (J) | |
| thermal energy input or heat absorbed from the source (J) |
