Average velocity
Gives the average velocity of an object as its displacement divided by the elapsed time over an interval. It is used in kinematics to summarise motion between two positions, ignoring what happened in between.
\bar{v} = \frac{\Delta x}{\Delta t} = \frac{x_2 - x_1}{t_2 - t_1}What the symbols mean
| average velocity (m/s) | |
| displacement, change in position (m) | |
| elapsed time over the interval (s) | |
| position at the start time t_1 (m) | |
| position at the end time t_2 (m) | |
| start time (s) | |
| end time (s) |
