Centripetal force
Gives the magnitude of the inward force needed to keep a body of mass m moving at speed v along a circle of radius r. The vector form adds a minus sign so the force points toward the center, opposite the outward unit vector.
F = \frac{mv^2}{r}What the symbols mean
| magnitude of the centripetal force (N) | |
| mass of the moving body (\mathrm{kg}) | |
| speed of the body along the path (\mathrm{m/s}) | |
| radius of the circular path (\mathrm{m}) |
