Chemical potential
The chemical potential of a component is the rate at which the Gibbs free energy of a system changes as the amount of that component is changed, with temperature and pressure held constant. It is used to predict phase equilibria and chemical reaction equilibria.
\mu_{\mathrm{X}} = \left(\frac{\partial G}{\partial n_{\mathrm{X}}}\right)_{T,p}What the symbols mean
| chemical potential of component X (J/mol) | |
| Gibbs free energy (J) | |
| amount of substance of component X (mol) | |
| thermodynamic temperature (K) | |
| pressure (Pa) |
