Conservation of angular momentum

The total angular momentum of a system of particles stays constant when no net external torque acts on the system. It is used to analyse rotating bodies, orbits and collisions.

\sum_{i=1}^{n}\vec{L}_i = \mathrm{const}

What the symbols mean

angular momentum of the i-th particle or body (kg·m²/s)
number of particles or bodies in the system
index labelling each particle or body
