Impulse
Impulse is the total effect of a force acting over a time interval, found by integrating the force with respect to time. It equals the change in momentum of the object the force acts on.
\boldsymbol{I} = \int_{t_1}^{t_2} \boldsymbol{F} \, \mathrm{d}tWhat the symbols mean
| impulse vector, in newton seconds (\mathrm{N\,s}) | |
| force vector acting on the object, in newtons | |
| start time of the interval, in seconds | |
| end time of the interval, in seconds | |
| time variable of integration, in seconds |
