Mechanical advantage
Gives the factor by which a machine or tool multiplies an input force, found as the ratio of the load force to the effort force. It is used to judge how much a lever, pulley, or other simple machine helps lift or move a load.
\mathrm{MA} = \frac{L_F}{E_F}What the symbols mean
| mechanical advantage (dimensionless) | |
| load force, the force exerted by the machine on the load (newtons) | |
| effort force, the force applied to the machine (newtons) |
