Normal force on an inclined plane
Gives the component of the normal force exerted by a surface on a block resting on a plane tilted at angle theta, equal to the weight component perpendicular to the surface. It applies when the object stays in contact with the surface and has no perpendicular acceleration.
N = mg\cos\thetaWhat the symbols mean
| normal force magnitude (\mathrm{N}) | |
| mass of the object (\mathrm{kg}) | |
| gravitational acceleration (\mathrm{m/s^2}) | |
| angle of incline relative to the horizontal |
