Potential energy from force
The potential energy of an object at a position is the negative of the work done by a conservative force along a path from a reference point to that position. It is used to find stored energy in gravitational, electric, and spring systems from the force acting on them.
V = -\int \boldsymbol{F} \cdot \mathrm{d} \boldsymbol{r}What the symbols mean
| potential energy (\mathrm{J}) | |
| force vector (\mathrm{N}) | |
| infinitesimal displacement vector along the path (\mathrm{m}) |
