Quotient rule
Gives the derivative of a function written as one function divided by another, provided the denominator is nonzero. It is used in single-variable calculus whenever a ratio of differentiable functions must be differentiated.
\left(\frac{f}{g}\right)'(x)=\frac{f'(x)g(x)-f(x)g'(x)}{(g(x))^2}What the symbols mean
| numerator function, differentiable at x | |
| denominator function, differentiable at x and nonzero there | |
| derivative of f with respect to x | |
| derivative of g with respect to x |
