Velocity in free fall
Gives the velocity of a body falling freely under gravity alone, starting from rest, with upward taken as positive so the velocity is negative when the body falls. It is used for kinematics problems involving objects dropped or thrown with no air resistance.
v=-gtWhat the symbols mean
| velocity of the body (\mathrm{m/s}) | |
| gravitational acceleration near the surface (\mathrm{m/s^2}, about 9.81) | |
| time elapsed since the fall began (\mathrm{s}) |
