Volumetric flow rate
Gives the volume of fluid passing through a surface per unit time, found by integrating the normal component of the velocity field over the surface. It is used in fluid mechanics to quantify flow through pipes, channels and other cross-sections.
q_V = \iint_A \boldsymbol{v} \cdot \boldsymbol{e}_{\mathrm{n}} \, \mathrm{d}AWhat the symbols mean
| volume flow rate (m^3/s) | |
| fluid velocity vector field (m/s) | |
| unit normal vector to the surface | |
| surface area over which the flow is integrated (m^2) |
